ANOTHER Setback or Bad News Good News

Thursday I went to my Yoga class:-) Yesterday I was snowshoeing out to my car with TONS of errands and stuff to do before the Recycling thing today. The skinny part of the road is just dirt and rocks its southern exposure no snow for just a little ways all the run off washes it off there, well I clipped a rock with my snow shoe and went down HARD on my kneecap on a rock. This was WAY vcry scary (it is my less than perfect knee to begin with) take my breath away pain and then it seemed to go away so I was almost out I just figured I would continue my day. Well I had to run up to Rays in Weed to verify my spot and the whole way it was swelling, by the time I got back to about MT. Shasta I couldn't even think straight the pain was so bad, what all I was suppose to be
doing. I went to my friend Adamines and she had all the supplies, I put arnica gel on it and Tylenol (I NEVER take anything for pain) it has to be bad and sat with it elevated and iced. At this point I didn't think I could even get home. After a couple hours I felt like I wanted my own couch I went and bought all of my own supplies and had it elevated all day yesterday and I am going to attempt to hobble out to my car to do the Recycling Fundraiser at the Weed Rays this morning. Soooo I just go into this whole fear thing about being behind AGAIN with my training.
Two of my three Spiritual Nags (SNAGS) said to ask my knee what it wanted. Whatever? I thought that sounds a little kooky. Well this morning in my morning Spiritual Exercises, I got, Slow Down, Focus, and stay out of fear.
Another story, The woman that was my nurse 10 years ago at Mercy Mt. Shasta, Nancy, just sent me $200. Her sister had died of breast cancer and she also had a bi-lateral mastectomy. I haven't talked to her in years, she wrote me this long letter, she called we talked for hours laughing last night. We were in the paper (10 years ago) for starting that Breast Cancer group, I still have the picture I am going to find someone with a scanner and post it here:-) Thanks Nancy for really lifting my spirits, she also said she had some ideas of people she was going to hit up for $$$ for me. My friends Eve and Jay sent me a check Thanks sooo much for your support:-)

Back At It:-)

Yesterday I went to my yoga class, the first one in a while, it was wonderful, they missed me:-) PEMS (Physically Emotionally Mentally and Spiritually it felt good. After 11 nights on the freeway, I am on call now. I don't eat very well out there and this round was no exception I kind of binged on everything I haven't been doing for months, Sugar, bread, dairy you names it I ate it. I am very grateful I didn't really gain any weight:-) I seem to be experiencing "Freewaywithdrawals" big clearing stuff coming out of everywhere, didn't feel that good on Saturday.
I did the Big Mt. Shasta Recycling fundraiser. I made $68. 43 from cans and 25 in the jar (5 of which I put in so they would know what to do) I put so much loving energy into that, I had a table with brochures Connie sent me and I wore last years climb shirt she sent me too:-) I was kind of disappointed, I was all hyped up to talk and I think I only handed out 2 brochures all day. I felt like they were all to busy. I had a great spot, Thankyou Rays, Greg the Asst. Manager was quite helpful with that:-) My husband put it all in perspective for me and I am not that bummed about it now. Next weekend everyone might pile into the Weed Rays with their cans and bottles:-) It was a good day though, I got pics on my throw away camera that I will get developed after the Weed event. The Caltrans boys showed up early and dropped off the "sixpak" truck so I wouldn't have to heave all of those recyclables more than I had to. It was very nice to have their support. They showed up at the end of the day but the truck wasn't near filled, maybe this Saturday it will be overflowing:-)
I was completely out of anything good for me to eat so I had to do a big grocery shopping. The yoga class would have been enough I think. Anyways I made two trips with groceries from my car 4 miles r.t. 20lbs each approx. plus carrying stuff in my hands too. There is prob. 2 more trips I don't think are going to happen today. I don't feel very strong. I feel my training is set back quite a bit. That fine line between pushing when you are sick and doing too much. Not doing enough. All I know is I did a bunch yesterday and today I wont. Tomorrow I plan to do it again the yoga and a couple trips with groceries. I am doing the best I can:-)

Breaking Trail AGAIN

Yea, more snow, its so pretty. Coming in (I couldnt even seen my nice trail this morning) after 12hr shift is really starting to be challenging now. I felt like I SHOULD try to sit out and do my recycling thing tomorrow even if it is snowing, I did put weather permitting. I just don't see how I am going to be able to do it. Its looking like next week is going to be snowing too. So the snow is good news bad news. I feel challenged just to get to work, let alone any training. Yea I can pay my bills now:-) Connie sent me some really kool brochures to hand out and a t-shirt to wear too. My husband was making a simple banner, the supplies Ron at the Dunsmuir Hardware gave me a discount on the supplies, thanks Ron:-)

What Day is This?

Sunday I got called in to work nights 7pm-7am "ChainControl" for Caltrans. 12 hr shifts the days and nights quickly get a little blurry. Cindy one of the plow drivers gave me a check for $200. she will be getting 2 prayer flags:-) Thanks Cindy:-)Monday morning I met with Linda and Julie for one last team meeting before Linda went to Nepal. We went in fresh snow breaking trail up to Horse camp. It was sooo pretty I couldn't miss that. My energy level was high at first and soon was gone, I didn't make it all the way to Horse Camp, but I gave it a good try and got to be with my new friends:-) Tuesday I made it to my Yoga Class. Wednesday morning breaking trail up to my house, OMYGOSH. Sooo I am getting a workout going in and out from the house again, only one mile. This morning I had a 21lb pack on coming in with groceries. But I didn't make it to my yoga class. The energy level now will be to just get me to work and home for a few hours sleep. Not any extra time for workouts. I did have my pedometer on the other night, what night? Tuesday night and I logged 5 miles up and down the freeway. Suppose to snow big tonight again:-) The bad news I am not able to log long workouts but the good news is I am already on OT.

Hiking with a Purpose

I am sooo grateful to have the best hiking right in my back yard. I don't need to go anywhere. Not much of it is flat, so that is very good for training. I decided to go with a purpose. Every time I saw a can, they were all off the road, I dove off the side and threw it back up on the rode. My head would say, that's too steep, and then the other little voice would say, ah but you are training to climb Mt. Shasta ...Hello:-) I went for 4miles, it levels off around 3 but I was walking in snow so it wasn't easy. On the way back I picked up 9 cans and put them in my pack. Round trip 7.5miles. 2hrs. 55min. Free had a wonderful time chasing stuff, who knows how many miles he logged onto his feet:-) That is the back road to Mt. Shasta, I think around 10 miles to Ney Springs. That would be kool to do, but I would have to have someone come and pick me up:-)

Yesterday was a rest day, but my little boy dog doesn't believe in them, we still had to do our early morning 2.5 mile hike, with 6 strategically placed "fairy" band aids on my heals I was able to log that into my new boots. My feet are very sore I hope I can do a long one on Friday with Julie in them.

Yoga, Not for a Wuss!!!

One of the things on our training list is Yoga/Pilate's. To strengthen core, and more flexibility to prevent injuries. Now I was really draggin my feet on this one. I was reminded (or nagged LOL) by one of my team mates LOL that I needed to be doing this. I have always just kind of wanted to vomit when ever the word Yoga came up. Well yesterday I took my very first Yoga class in my whole entire life. Its NOT for wusses!!! I am soooo sore. Everything between my neck and ankles. I think this might be a rest day. Wendy Crist is one of the Instructors in Dunsmuir. It was a WONDERFUL experience, I hope to be back in there tomorrow. I can really see (and feel) the benefit of this:-)

Horse Camp

Yesterday Linda Julie and I snowshoed to Horse Camp. This was very kool, in many ways. Energetically the inside of this cabin and outside is just wonderful. All the history. I could have gone farther. It was steeper than our last training but I feel stronger. I can feel progress, it seems odd not having ever trained for something like this, to have no gauge, this was really good. Linda has just wonderful stories to tell us too. Really good info. We are scheduled to go again with her for the last time on Monday, for a few weeks as she is going to Nepal. OHMYGOSH I am going to miss her. I hope we can stay motivated to make her proud when she comes back:-)

Sooooo then after the training, Julie and I went boot shopping. My head was swimming. I had fun joking about my normal Walmart experience. I wont go into the whole wool sock thing, I guess I am the only one that didnt know about that. The 5th Season is very helpful and they have allot of patience (they have to with me LOL) The prices are really lower than other places. They have allot of kool stuff. I don't think we are going to need to by much, pretty soon we are going to be getting stuff in the mail for the climb. Very excited.

http://www.thefifthseason.com/mntfootwear.html These are the boots I got. Before dark last night I put on a couple of miles of hill work on them:-) My old ones my feet were wet and sweaty socks so my feet were a little tender from that already. I hope to put some more miles on them today:-)http://www.usoutdoorstore.com/outlet/asolo-power-matic-200-gv-womens.html
Here is a link that tells about the history of the cabin http://www.tscf.org/foundation/horse_camp
I just feel sooo blessed to be able to do this training with these wonderful women and to be apart of this whole Fundraising/Training/Climb thing. I have to start putting up flyers for my first real fundraiser. Recycling for The Breast Cancer Funder Climb Against the Odds:-) I think I might have gotten it to the paper in time for this week:-)

Yea!!! 3 days in a row on that StairMaster for 1 hr:-) Soon I will be adding a pack:-)

Sunday, February 1, 2009

Yesterday I did 1 hr. on the StairMaster, only less than 2 min. water break in between 30 min. Julie finally called she went and did that hike by herself, BRAT, it sounded kick butt, she said she got pictures too, our signals got crossed:-) Because I have to try and keep up with these youngsters, I did some hill work right close to the house for one hr before it got dark:-)
