It's A Brand New Day

It's A Brand New Day
(taken 2 miles above my home:-)

And THE LADY is smiling on me now :-)

Yes, there have been some misunderstandings, but the real reason we are here is to raise $$$ for the Breast Cancer Fund. I am still the Local Fundraiser, so all money that is collected stays here in Siskiyou County. It goes to the
http://www.breastcancersiskiyou.org/Public/WelcomePage
There are a few people that in the beginning said "don’t worry let us handle it" "fundraising is what we do" well if I had waited for them there wouldn’t be a dime in the fund. 99% of the money I have collected is from my hard work and creativity, and also is donated from people who love me and want to support me. And still do love and support me, no matter what.
There is a whole group of folks that have all along said they were going to donate to support me. Its not about climbing a "physical mountain," It never was! It’s about helping women climbing their own mountains from the very first diagnosis, all along that journey until after and beyond. It’s about women overcoming their limitations and staying in their empowerment!
Please support the climb against the odds, now more than ever.
My relationship with the Breast Cancer Fund’s, Climb Against the Odds has shifted from being a climber and fundraiser to now being a Cheerleader and Fundraiser. I may not be on the field, but I am still a part of the game. I love everything about this endeavor. We may never understand why this all happened, but just like Breast Cancer itself, it happened for a profoundly positive reason and someday I will understand.
The bottom line is that I raised over $5000 for Breast Cancer Services of Siskiyou County. I got to open up and talk to more people in 6 months than I have in probably 5 years. I moved through alot of uncomfortable things that I thought I couldn’t do. I stepped out of my box. I have a bigger box now:-) Hey maybe I don’t even have a box. The walls are coming down:-) My body is in better shape than.....well, EVER. And I think I might continue doing Yoga :-) LOL (those of you that know I had a whole THING about doing yoga, I thought it was for wusses), there is tons more blessings.
Sure, I wish I was still on the climbing team, who wouldn’t, I was so excited at having been selected to be the local climber, but what I know now is that we all did the best we could with what we knew and felt at the time. This kind of thing brings up a healing opportunity for everyone involved, whether or not they have had breast cancer themselves. So it is what it is, let’s move on! I do feel extremely proud and happy for the way I have handled everything in the past 6 months. I have climbed more than one mountain every day since I made my commitment and I am still climbing in my own way!
Please help me reach my goal of raising $10,000 for the local breast cancer fund! We can do it! So it’s now time for those of you to put your money where your mouth is and open the BIG checkbook.
Thank you for your loving support. OK COUGH UP THE BUCKS NOW:-)

Friday night I brought down all my plant babies I had carefully lovingly potted and readied them to all go to new homes. After the climb news I had just received I didn't feel like going forward with anything let alone talking to a bunch of people about the BCF. I asked Wendy if she would do it alone and she said yes. We made $250. $62.50 of which went to the Dunsmuir Garden club as thanks for letting me have the sale with them. So a total of $187.50 will be added to my total money raised.

Because of the new climb news I just don't have any more energy to put out. I have no more drive to continue the fundraising. The yard sale has been canceled. The Permaculture talk has been canceled. The Raffle will be held as soon as I get around to collecting all the tickets from the different vendors that have been selling tickets for me, Probably this week. I had a couple other really fun things I had in mind for last minute $ that is not going to happen.

10,443' Elevation :-)

Lake Helen on Mount Shasta was named by local Mount Shasta artist and mountaineerEdward Stuhl in honor of a climb of Shasta accomplished together with the beautiful and athletic Helen Wheeler, who was his friend and the former owner of a large tract of McCloud property.

That's me standing just before dropping into Lake Helen you can see some campers to the left. I made it. It was really the warmest day yet and the snow was so soft. What a work out:-)

There was a group of us with Linda in the lead, then she stayed back with me the slowest one. I got to do a little bit of glissading down from Helen, it was pretty fun. It would of been nice to be able to do that all the way down, but the snow was too soft.

Bonnie Lou Day:-)

At the beginning of April after Wendy had gifted me a massage, I started going every week. All of the pushing I was doing I knew my little body really needed the extra help. Help moving toxins and rebuilding. Well Bonnie Lou went away for two weeks. I have gone up to 33lb pack this week and this morning I told my little body I wouldn't add any more weight for awhile, my body said enough. I intend to leave it at that weight probably through next week, increasing duration. The last couple steps this morning I told my ankles, TODAY IS BONNIE LOU DAY.
This is deep tissue message, Intuitive, its not the "froofroo" type, she worked me over. Thats where you get the results. She is going away again in a couple weeks. OMYGOSH!!! just before the climb, all the pushing, we need our BL day:-)

Rest Day?

Rest day, whats that? Lots of yard work, stretching, pulling, lifting. Did I say Lifting and pulling and stretching? Getting ready for the big plant sale. Lots more to do. Getting my veggis planted too:-) The formatting on this flyer is incorrect but that's one of the things that's going on next. I had to weed the whole lower garden so I could find more babies to pot up. Some Medicinal herbs:-)

Shasta Bally

There was high Avalanche warning so we didn't go on the Mt.http://www.shastaavalanche.org/ I drove to Redding and Julie and I hiked up Shasta Bally. We hiked 11+ miles 6.5hrs. This was a really good hike to increase our length of time out and be WAY challenging too. Setting us up for Monday, I think we might go on the Mt. toward Lake Helen with Linda soooooo excited. This month we are suppose to do a 8+ hr hike, YIKES!!!
Located north west of Redding, California, near Whiskeytown reservoir. This site is the terminal for the North Leg of the SS12000 microwave radio. The terminal feeds a 50 watt Comwave ITFS transmitter (channel A1), which serves the Redding area. The ITFS signal is also received by a translator at Soda Ridge near Dunsmuir.
Winter weather is extremely severe. The site is manned continuously by a technician employed by KRCR, Redding. Winter access is by snowcat or helicopter only.

It was so weird to drive south to Redding and do a hike that the last leg of it we were hoofing it in the snow:-)
6,209ft SW of Whiskey Town Lake, NW of Redding.

The views were just amazing, I was sooo pooped and STARVING, I am glad I have these pics, I appreciate it this morning:-)

We had planned to go to the new
Trader Joe's on my way out of town but I decided that would have to wait for another day. Now that's pooped!
You can see a little bit of Shasta Lake Mt. Shasta and Whiskeytown Lake

YEA TEAM:-)

Here is the Castle Craggs pic Bay Area meets North West:-)

New Donations from my Aunt Tia Cathy, Nancy Brennan, Bonnie Riggs, Thanks guys:-) The Snow School, and team hike showed me where I need to work harder so I have been doing short hikes with 28lb pack, (way behind on working with weight) I have been doing light weights with my arms. When we were doing the self arrest, my range of motion is better than it use to be but the strength up there needs work. The cardio is the other part that needs attention, so I have been on the bike at the gym for an hour. Also its the best thing for my knee. Somehow I need to squeeze in the Stairclimber that I haven't been on in weeks. I have also been practicing the French step one of the things we learned in the Snow School:-) Tomorrow we are suppose to be snowshoeing to Horse Camp with Linda.

Oh yea and I don't think I have mentioned the Fundraising events that are in the works. Plant Sale, I am suppose to be busy potting up plants. Yard sale, (May 23rd & 24th at the Dunsmuir's Community Compost Project) suppose to be asking people to clear their garages out and donate to. June 5th Permaculture Presentation by Wendy Crist. Big Romantic Candle Lit Catered Getaway for two Raffle that the Winning ticket will be pulled on the evening of June 5th. I need to get donations for a basket for that raffle too. Oh and I haven't finished hitting all the business I need to go to. YIKES!!! we are just a little over 6 wks away from climb day.

Castle Craggs

Big training hike, led by Shasta Mt. Guides, the pace was pretty fast going up. The Bay Area team kicked butt.

Up at the top everyone is snacking and taking pictures taking a break before our trek down. It was really so nice to be able to spend a little time and get to know some of the other women and one guy, Gil that we will be doing the climb with in June. Separate

teams but we are still all going the same way .......up. It was just kool talking about training and some fundraising, mostly training and gear. My watch timer stopped I must have bumped it so I don't know how long this was or how many miles. Julie mapped it I think. We started at the park this time. Last time we started at the Forest Service gate at Soda Creek.

People needed to get ready and drive home. So it made the hike about 3 miles shorter than when we did it with Linda.

I got to have breakfast with everyone 2 mornings in a row, at the Black Bear, it was wonderful:-)

These aren't very good pictures of anyone I just wanted some. Marcella was taking some really good pictures and we got a hiker to take all of us on her camera. So I cant wait to get that one.

Snow School

There was a bunch of people that came up from the Bay Area team. We had three wonderful teachers, I can't remember their names though. They were from http://www.shastaguides.com/ We were learning self arrests of all sorts. Falling on your butt, face down and on your back. Putting crampons on, walking, with them on.
Basic ice ax use, practiced kicking steps up steep snow slopes, descending with the plunge step (they had a name for it???) They had all sorts of great pointer for us, very interesting.

Tomorrow we are all going to hike up Castle Craggs:-) It was snowing hard all day:-)
