Over The Top Birthday Weekend/Fundraising

It started with receiving the New Day Herald with the reprint of the article from the Mt. Shasta Herald about the climb in it. OMYGOSH so honored. One life changing thing after another all weekend, with so much Joy going on and on and on. Is it possible to have a Joy overdose? No. There was a surprise breakfast with cake, presents and DONATIONS!!! I received $170. in donations and lots of contacts, passed out cards and posters. My friend Joy is going to loan me her camera for three months so I can send training pics and through Summit day so excited:-) Thanks Jennavieve, Julie, Susan and Thea-Mai for your heartfelt donations:-) Jennavieve wants to get together with me and write a blurb and she is going to send it out to a very extensive list of people, she has some really good ideas for me:-) So there was plenty of fundraising going on but no Training. In fact my training diet that I have been on went completely away. I ate EVERYTHING I wanted. Including Cheese, Sugar, Bread, Dairy, and don't forget the Coffee, all of the stuff I have been leaving out:-) I am ready to get back at it.

Now This Is What I Am Talking About

There are plenty of reasons for doing the Climb, but Celebrating Life and Honoring those who were not as fortunate as myself are right up there at the top. One morning I was talking to Bonnie downtown Dunsmuir ( she was walking her little dog and I had just gotten off of a 12hr shift and was waiting for the hardware store to open) and she was sharing about her cousin. It was a powerful story and I recently asked her to type it up so I could share it here. I couldn't read it with a dry eye. I am so honored to be going to carry Kasey's Prayer flag to the summit of Mt. Shasta this year.

This is just one of thousands of stories that are wanting to be told.

TWICE:-)

Yesterday Julie and her husband Wolf and I snowshoed to HorseCamp, then Julie and I went again :-) I feel pretty good about the day. OMYGOSH!!! Look at all of the snow. Sooo excited. The last time we were here with Linda you could walk right in the front door, this was Sooooooo amazing.

These little birds flew into our hands and ate Organic Almonds and pumpkin seeds and
sunflower seeds. We all got pictures with these wonderful little creatures who talked to us too. The almonds were the best they said. They like to fling the other seeds at Julie:-) She learned about them from the Austrian guys that last time she came up by herself.

This guy is doing an article on Julie and all the stages of her training so Wolf was talking pictures

of her and he got some of me too:-) When we got back to town we stopped in at Fifth Season www.thefifthseason.com to have Jacques work on our boots. He is THE MAN when it comes to fitting boots. Mine are being a bit of a work in progress:-) Today after Yoga class I am going there and he is going to help fit my new Osprey pack so I can really load it up like Julie. She had a 30lb pack. I just had 10 lbs.
My knee is sore but not hurt, I am feel very good about the whole day and saw some improvement:-)

Plan B Update:-)

Sooo I did 3 days in a row 1hr non stop in the pool and yoga I had to do a rest day, then I just didn't want to be in all that chlorine I decided, 2.5 miles light hike in the morning and 2.5 miles light hike in the afternoon 2 days in a row, knee still swells a little but it doesn't have pain, very tender. Lots of Arnica gel ice and Advil's for swelling too in the evening. We were suppose to do a training hike to Horse Camp on Saturday but we changed it early in the week to Sunday because of weather and it turned out that Sunday was the worse day. So no Horse Camp oh poo. I really really wanted to get up there and see how my knee would do. So now it is changed for the break in weather on Wednesday:-) So I thought well I need to do something that sets me up for Wednesday and another push on the knee. So I did 2hrs. 6.8miles on the StairMaster, YIKES whose idea was that:-) Very slow level between 1 & 2 but I could have done more but my knee said lets rest for Wednesday:-)
Last years local climber Hillie did an online donation thanks soooo much Hillie, she also belongs to a group of Red Hat Ladies and is going to help me with a fundraiser:-)

Plan B, Good News, Even Better News:-)

My knee was feeling stronger and I went out and in but the snow shoes seemed to stress it a little in just 1 mile. I got a new routine going inside to workout, then my husband opened the road up shoveling the really bad spots so I can drive in and out now (even though I almost had to change my drawers in one spot) So the new Plan B is the pool at the Wellness center, I moved for 1 hr yesterday. I don't usually think about that as a workout, but yes I can feel it. Of course I cut a little wood too and some indoor exercises. That's my plan for this week, then next weekend try the snowshoes again going up to Horse Camp with Julie:-)
So I got a check from Bonnie, she is the woman who pledged to support my training each month with a $25. incentive check. I didn't think I really did enough to get it but I guess she did:-) Thanks Bonnie that boosted the energy. My intention is to make up for February this month:-)
When I was at the pool Lacey and Paul showed up and said they wanted to help me brainstorm fundraising ideas. OMYGOSH!!! I was soooooo excited. The energy those two have, and ideas, so I think my staying in a positive attitude MOST of the time is paying off:-) The staying out of fear thing.
Thanks Connie for working so hard to get us all of these koolio items for the climb. New Osprey back pack http://www.ospreypacks.com/Packs/ArielSeriesWomens/Ariel65/ We got blue ones :-)http://www.leki.com/trekking/products.phpTrekking poles. Then we got gaiter and snowline mitts, gripper gloves and a hat from http://www.outdoorresearch.com/site/index.html. And a whole bag of assorted Luna bars and stuff I didnt even know they made http://www.clifbarstore.com/index.asp Thanks to these supporters but BIG thanks to Connie:-)

The Last of the Recycling Adventures:-)

I got the throwaway camera developed, this is from last Saturday at Mt. Shasta Rays.

I made $17. at the Weed Rays, well actually it was 7, the Caltrans boys got to the Opportunity center before me (I had called them and told them I didn't have enough for them to bother coming and picking them up) and took a bunch of cans and told the guy to give me the money, and then there was the 5 I put in the jar so people would know what to do, so that would be how I ended up with $17. It was so windy out there. But it didn't rain or snow so that's a very good thing:-)

The good news is my knee is feeling TONS better, I will go with out the Advil's so I can monitor the pain better now. The "Snags" said to use the ice for 48 hrs then switch to the healing series, castor oil on flannel with a plastic bag over it and then a heating pad on top of it. The idea is to do it for 3 days in a row, just for no more than one hr sessions. Its suppose to be something that Edgar Cayce wrote about, whatever, I am always open for suggestions:-)
